Highlights

Velika Plaža is the longest sandy beach on the Montenegrin coast, extending from Port Milena in the north to the mouth of the Bojana River in the south. The fine sand covering both the beach and the seabed has proven therapeutic properties – it is recommended for people with back problems, rheumatism, and sciatica. The shallow turquoise sea and absence of strong waves make it ideal for all ages. The beach is so vast that even at its maximum capacity of 150,000 visitors, there is always enough space for privacy.

At the very southern end of Velika Plaža, the Bojana River splits into two channels and forms a triangular sandy island known as Ada Bojana, which marks the border between Montenegro and Albania. The island offers a more relaxed pace, warmer river water suitable for swimming and kayaking, and restaurants where fish and shellfish are grilled on open fires immediately after being caught. Ada Bojana is also home to the only nudist camp in Montenegro, which has been attracting domestic and international visitors for decades in search of privacy and a connection with nature. The sight of the river flowing into the sea is one of the most striking natural experiences on the Montenegrin coast.

MCM Beach is located at the third kilometre of Velika Plaža on the way to Ada Bojana and has long been a holder of the prestigious Blue Flag for quality, cleanliness, and adherence to environmental standards. It features a café-restaurant, a children's playground, a car park, and free WiFi access for guests. Organised zones with sun loungers and parasols, showers, changing cabins, and sports equipment rental shops make it one of the most fully equipped locations along the entire beach. It is an ideal starting point for exploring the rest of the beach.

The constant sea breezes that caress the Ulcinj coastline have made Velika Plaža one of the most acclaimed kitesurfing destinations on the Adriatic, attracting athletes from across Europe and beyond. Along the shoreline there are schools and equipment rental centres catering to both beginners and experienced riders. In addition to kitesurfing and windsurfing, popular activities include beach volleyball and beach football. The winds are most stable in the morning hours, which is useful to know when planning activities.
