Naša rijeka Zeta (Our River Zeta)

Naša rijeka Zeta (Our River Zeta) is a weekend festival on the banks of the Zeta river at Tunjevo, in and around the River Zeta Nature Park in Danilovgrad municipality. The 2024 edition took place on 29 and 30 June, organised by the NGO Visit Danilovgrad together with the Municipality.

The Zeta valley is the green heart of central Montenegro, a plain of fields and villages threaded by the river, and late June catches it at its best: warm days, long evenings and water at swimming temperature. The festival plants itself directly on the banks, so the river is never a backdrop but the main stage.

The concept is eco-tradition: a producers' fair spreads along the riverbank with free goulash for visitors, while the river itself hosts bridge diving, water games and tire races. Hot-air balloon rides lift the more adventurous above the valley, and concerts carry the evenings — with riverside camping for those who stay the night.

The festival doubles as a celebration and defence of the Zeta itself, showcasing the protected river as a living space for recreation and local life. Families wade, divers leap, balloons rise, and the whole valley turns out along the green water.

It is an easy event to fall into. Visitors can spend the afternoon browsing the producers' stalls and eating goulash, cheer the divers from the bank, join the water games, and stay on as the music starts; those who bring a tent can simply stay put, sleep by the water and wake to the river at first light.

Naša rijeka Zeta is held annually over a weekend in late June; the coming edition is set for 26 and 27 June on the Zeta riverbanks in Danilovgrad municipality. Everything is free of charge, camping included, making this one of central Montenegro's most generous summer weekends.
