The Montenegro Sun Reggae Fest is the country's only reggae festival, organised by the NGO Urbani kult and reaching its 15th edition on 4–9 September 2026; the 2025 edition ran under the cheerful slogan "Let our manifestations be your destinations".
Early September is the riviera's gentlest week: the sea at its warmest, the beaches breathing again after the August crush, evenings long and mild. It is hard to imagine weather better matched to reggae's tempo, and the festival has built its identity on exactly that alignment — unhurried music for the coast's most unhurried days.
The line-up gathers artists from seven or more countries — the 2025 edition featured D Lion and Deliman — playing free beachside concerts across several venues: Hotel Palas Lux and the Rondo pool in Petrovac, and Slovenska beach in Budva. Reggae at the water's edge in the soft warmth of early September is the festival's whole argument, and it is convincing.
The roaming format is part of the fun: the festival moves between the intimate Petrovac venues and the long sweep of Slovenska beach, so each night has a different backdrop and a slightly different crowd, from village seafront to big-resort sands.
The programme reaches beyond music, with eco workshops for kids and multimedia art woven through the week — a festival with a message about the coast it plays on. It shares its week with the Petrovac Jazz Festival, its sibling under Urbani kult, so the riviera's first September week belongs entirely to live music.
Everything is free. If you are on the Budva riviera in the first week of September, the festival comes to you — check which venue hosts each night and follow the bass.
