DEUS — the December Arts Scene (Decembarska umjetnička scena) — is Podgorica's month-long winter season of culture, organised by the Capital City. Now a long-established tradition, it reached its 33rd edition in 2025, running from 1 to 29 December and filling the darkest month of the year with around twenty programmes.
The formula is breadth: theatre, music, literature, film and visual arts all share the December calendar, spread across the city's venues. The 2025 edition opened with the first International Festival of Theatre Direction "Jagoš Marković" (1–6 December), a festival-within-a-festival honouring one of the region's celebrated directors, while the 2024 edition featured "Days of Japan".
For visitors, DEUS is the easiest way to sample Podgorica's cultural life in one trip: on almost any December evening something is on, from concerts and exhibitions to readings and screenings, and the programme changes character from night to night.
Most events are free of charge, making it a natural companion to the city's New Year market season. The detailed schedule is announced by the Capital City ahead of each December.
