One of the oldest carnivals in Europe, with over 500 years of tradition dating back to 1518. The streets of Kotor's medieval Old Town come alive with masked parades, elaborate costumes, music, and dancing. The celebration is organized by the Boka Navy (Bokeljska mornarica), a 700-year-old seafaring brotherhood.
The festivities culminate with a grand carnival parade through the Old Town, the Grand Masquerade Ball, and the symbolic trial and burning of the Carnival figure, representing the expulsion of winter's evils.
