Operosa Montenegro Opera Festival
时间
地点
Operosa is Montenegro's only opera festival, founded in 2006 by Katherine Haataja and staged a dozen times since. Its stages are the sea fortresses of Herceg Novi — Kanli Kula and Forte Mare — with performances also reaching Luštica Bay and the island fortress of Mamula.
The festival mounts full opera productions in these open-air stone settings: the 2025 edition staged La Bohème, alongside a Magic Flute adapted for children. Hearing opera inside a fortress above the Adriatic, with the night sea behind the stage, is an experience no conventional opera house can match.
Operosa is also a training ground: masterclasses for young artists run alongside the productions, reflecting the festival's mission of developing the next generation of opera performers. The festival carries the EFFE label of Europe's festival association.
Performances are ticketed, and fortress venues are intimate, so booking ahead is wise. Early July evenings in Herceg Novi are warm and clear — arrive early to watch the light fade over the entrance to the Bay of Kotor before the overture.
