The International Sculpture Symposium in Danilovgrad has run since 1972 and holds official status as a "manifestation of special significance for Montenegrin culture." Its raw material is local: the white Maljat marble quarried near the town, which international sculptors carve in open-air studios each edition.

The symposium is also a forum for ideas: in 2024 it convened the international conference "Contemporary Sculpture," gathering 17 sculptors and theorists from six countries. 这种亲身实践的石雕与批判性讨论相结合的方式在任何地方都很罕见，更不用说在Montenegro的一个小镇了。
