Kontrasti ("Contrasts") is a young classical music festival in Podgorica, organised by CeP and held in mid-December — the 2nd edition ran from 16 to 18 December 2025, and the festival returns in December 2026. In just a few years it has carved out a place as the capital's dedicated stage for art music at the close of the year.
Mid-December gives the festival its mood. Podgorica, Montenegro's capital on the plain where rivers meet, is in its holiday phase: festive lights along the streets, long evenings, cafe windows glowing early. Indoor music feels like the natural way to spend those hours, and Kontrasti offers a quieter, more serious counterpoint to the season's louder entertainments. The city is compact, and the venues sit within an easy walk of the centre's squares.
The programme pairs established performers with the next generation. The 2025 edition featured a recital by the pianist Boris Kraljević and a dedicated evening of the Platform for Young Artists of Montenegro, giving emerging Montenegrin musicians a professional festival stage alongside seasoned soloists.
Concerts take place in the Vasa Pavić music school hall and at the Montenegrin National Theatre — intimate venues where classical music is heard at close range. As the name suggests, the festival trades in contrasts: young and established artists, chamber intimacy and theatre grandeur, all within three winter evenings. For listeners, the closeness is the point — you sit near enough to catch every detail of the playing, and to watch emerging musicians meet a real audience. That mix keeps the evenings varied, and no background in classical music is needed to enjoy them.
All concerts are free of charge, making Kontrasti an easy addition to any December visit to Podgorica. The festival is annual, and the 2026 edition runs from 15 to 17 December at the Vasa Pavić hall and the Montenegrin National Theatre.
