关于活动

MOD Fest is the only film festival in Montenegro dedicated to minority and identity cinema — films that explore the experiences of minority communities and questions of identity. The young festival is held over two days each April in Podgorica, when spring softens the capital and its cafe terraces fill up again.

Screenings take place at the Montenegrin Cinematheque and the centre of the Muslim Council, an unusual pairing of venues that reflects the festival's bridge-building mission. The programme is competitive on three levels — national, regional and international — covering both short and feature films, with panel discussions extending the conversations the films begin.

In a country of many communities, MOD Fest fills a real gap: it gives stories from the margins a dedicated screen and invites audiences to see Montenegro and the region through less familiar eyes. The panels regularly draw filmmakers and engaged audiences into open debate, and the discussions often prove as memorable as the films that spark them.

The compact format works in the festival's favour. It is short enough to attend in full, intense enough to feel like an occasion, and small enough that audiences, guests and filmmakers keep crossing paths between screenings. For a visitor curious about the textures of Montenegrin society beyond the tourist surface, it is hard to think of a more direct window.

All screenings and discussions are free of charge, keeping the festival accessible to exactly the broad audience it hopes to reach. The festival takes place each April at the Montenegrin Cinematheque in Podgorica, with programmes also at the Muslim Council centre; the next edition is scheduled for 21 and 22 April 2027. Simply turn up — no tickets are needed for any part of the programme, and the venues sit within easy reach of the city centre's squares and cafes.
