Durmitor Trail Run
Durmitor Trail is a mid-July trail running event based at Black Lake near Žabljak, with courses that climb from the lakeshore into the heart of the Durmitor massif. It has grown into a fixture of the mountain's summer calendar, drawing runners to one of the most photogenic race venues in the Balkans.
The flagship race covers 50 kilometres with 2,150 metres of ascent — a serious mountain course over Durmitor's high terrain. Two mid-distance routes are built around the park's glacial lakes: the 20-kilometre "5 Lakes" and the 10-kilometre "3 Lakes", each stringing together a chain of Durmitor's famous mountain eyes. A short Fun Trail completes the line-up for beginners and families.
The spread of distances is the event's real strength: an ultra runner, a weekend trail enthusiast and a child can all start from the same lakeside base on the same day. Between the pine forest at the start, the lakes on course and the peaks above, the scenery does much of the motivating.
The race is held in mid-July with Black Lake as start and hub; entry fees apply per distance, and registration plus course details are at durmitortrail.run.
