Green Montenegro International Film Fest

Green Montenegro International Film Fest is Montenegro's only environmental film festival, running since 2015 and now past its eleventh edition. Its setting is unlike any other cinema in the country: an open-air screen beside Crno jezero — Black Lake — deep in the pine forest of Durmitor National Park, with additional screenings at the Žabljak Culture Center.

Films compete across four categories — Ecology, Ecology of the Soul, Promo-Tourism and Student — on a large LED screen by the lake, watched through wireless headphones so the forest around the audience stays silent. Daytime workshops and masterclasses extend the programme beyond the screenings.

The formula has earned international recognition: the Green Film Network has ranked it among the world's top green film festivals. And the experience itself is the draw — watching environmental cinema under the stars, with the lake and the Durmitor massif in the dark behind the screen, is a genuinely singular way to spend an August evening.
