A hidden pebble cove beside Arza Fortress, Luštica Peninsula
Arza Beach is situated at the tip of the Luštica Peninsula, in the municipality of Herceg Novi, right beside the remains of the historic Austro-Hungarian Arza Fortress. It is a wild, pebble cove surrounded by rocky terrain and Mediterranean vegetation, distinguished by crystal-clear water and near-complete silence for most of the year. The beach is most commonly reached by boat or small vessel, which makes it a true destination for nautical enthusiasts and lovers of unspoiled nature. From the beach, views stretch across to the island of Mamula, the island of Žanjic, and the ancient Austro-Hungarian fortress, making this a place where the sea, history, and wild coastline converge in one small space.

Highlights

Directly alongside the pebble cove stand the remains of the Austro-Hungarian Arza Fortress, built in the 19th century as part of the coastal defence system of the Bay of Kotor. From the fortress walls, there is a direct view of Mamula Island, Žanjic Island, and the open Adriatic Sea, making this site one of the rare points on the Montenegrin coast where history and wild nature are so closely intertwined. A short trail above the beach allows visitors to explore the fortress ruins in approximately 20–30 minutes.

The water in Arza Cove is among the clearest on the Luštica Peninsula, thanks to the cove's isolation and the absence of tourist infrastructure. The pebbly seabed and rocky underwater formations along the northern shore make it particularly attractive for snorkelling and diving. Underwater visibility reaches several metres, and the diversity of marine life is visible even in shallow water close to shore. This is one of the rare corners of the Montenegrin Riviera where swimming takes place in near-complete silence.

From the beach and Arza Fortress, there is a direct view of Mamula Island with its 19th-century Austro-Hungarian fortress, one of the most recognisable silhouettes at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor. Mamula once served as a prison and today attracts visitors with its history and unspoiled nature. The visual contrast between the open sea, rocky islands, and the remains of the fortifications makes this one of the most striking views on the entire Luštica Peninsula.
What to do

The rocky underwater formations along the northern shore of the cove offer excellent visibility and diverse marine life, making Arza ideal for snorkelling and freediving.

A short trail above the beach leads to the remains of Arza Fortress, offering panoramic views of Mamula Island, Žanjic Island, and the open Adriatic.

Arriving by boat from Herceg Novi or Luštica Bay is itself part of the experience, with scenic views of rocky cliffs and hidden coves along the Luštica coastline.

Swim in crystal-clear Adriatic waters in one of the most isolated and peaceful coves on the Montenegrin coast.
