Travel alerts & safety

Montenegro is a broadly safe country — here's how to stay informed.

Montenegro is broadly safe for travellers, with low crime and well-trodden tourist routes. A little local knowledge — emergency numbers, road rules, beach flags — is all you need to travel with confidence.

Good to know

Emergency numbers

Free to call from any phone, anywhere in Montenegro.

112

Roads & mountains

Winter equipment is mandatory in the north from 15 November to 31 March. Check conditions before mountain trips, and take canyon roads slowly — they are narrow and winding.

Sea & beaches

Organised beaches use a flag system — swim only when the flags allow it. Take care near river mouths, where currents can be stronger than they look.

Health & essentials

Pharmacies meet EU standards and are easy to find. Tap water is safe to drink in most areas, and power sockets are 220 V, type C/F.

Stay informed

For current warnings, follow official channels — the Government of Montenegro and the national meteorology service publish up-to-date alerts.
