Bajova Kula

A pebble beach beside a 17th-century historic tower, 7 km from Kotor

Overview

Bajova Kula is a beach located in the settlement of Dražin Vrt, between Kotor and Perast, just 7.2 km from the old town of Kotor and about 3 km from Perast. The beach is approximately 60 metres long, predominantly pebble, and is surrounded by trees and vegetation that give it a naturally secluded feel. The water here is cooler than in other parts of the Bay of Kotor, thanks to mountain springs that constantly mix with the seawater. Within the beach complex, a beach bar and restaurant operate inside the historic tower, offering Mediterranean food and local wines. The beach provides sun loungers, umbrellas, showers, changing cabins and pontoons, and offers a direct view of Kotor and the mountain peaks above the bay.

Bajo Pivljanin's Historic Tower

The defensive tower right beside the beach was built in the 17th century and bears the name of the legendary Montenegrin hero Bajo Pivljanin, who used it as a brief resting place between battles against the Ottomans. The tower is one of the rare preserved examples of defensive architecture from that period on the shores of the Bay of Kotor. Today it houses a beach bar and restaurant with a Mediterranean menu, local wines and an open-air terrace. Visitors can explore the tower up close and experience the blend of historical heritage and contemporary hospitality.

A Cove Fed by Mountain Springs

Bajova Kula has one natural characteristic that sets it apart from other beaches in the Bay of Kotor: the water here remains cooler than at other locations even on the hottest August days. The reason is the mixing of mountain springs with the seawater, which constantly refreshes the cove. The beach faces south-east, meaning morning swimming is pleasant, while the intense midday sun is partially softened by the shade of the surrounding trees and vegetation. The seabed is pebbly, the water clear, and the depth increases gradually.

Views of Kotor and Lovćen

From Bajova Kula beach there is a direct view towards Kotor and the Lovćen mountain range above the bay. Its position in the inner part of the Bay of Kotor, just 7.2 km from the UNESCO-listed old town of Kotor, makes this beach an ideal starting point for a combined trip — a morning swim at the beach followed by an afternoon tour of Kotor or Perast, which is only 3 km away. The panorama of the bay from a sun lounger, with mountains in the background and the calm surface of the water, is unique to the inner part of the Bay of Kotor.

Perast — A Baroque Town on the Bay Shore

Just 3 km from Bajova Kula beach lies Perast, one of the best-preserved baroque towns on the eastern Adriatic. During the period of Venetian rule in the 17th and 18th centuries, the wealth from a fleet of 100 ships was invested in the construction of 16 baroque palaces and 19 churches. In front of the town lie two historic islands: the natural Sv. Đorđe with its 12th-century Benedictine monastery, and the artificially created Gospa od Škrpjela, the only man-made island on the Adriatic. The island can be reached by boat from Perast's quayside in just a few minutes.
