Buljarica Beach

The longest beach on the Budva Riviera — 2,250 m of pebble and sand

Swimming season: May – October
Overview

Buljarica stretches 2,250 metres between the capes of Resovo brdo and Dubovica, making it the largest beach on the Budva Riviera and the second longest on the Montenegrin coast, right behind Velika plaža in Ulcinj. The beach is sandy near Petrovac, while the greater part is pebbly and rocky, with clear water rich in marine life. Behind the beach you'll find a campsite, restaurants and cafés, while the northern section offers organised facilities with sun loungers and parasols. The sheer size of Buljarica guarantees a spot even in peak season, and its peaceful atmosphere attracts families and anyone looking to avoid the crowds of more popular Montenegrin destinations. Water taxis run during the season between Buljarica and Petrovac, Lučice and Sveti Stefan.

Buljarica Bay — 2,250 m of shoreline

Buljarica Bay stretches from the cape of Resovo brdo to the headland of Dubovica for a length of 2,250 metres, making this beach the largest on the Budva Riviera and the second longest in all of Montenegro, right behind Velika plaža in Ulcinj. The beach is divided into two distinct sections: the northern, organised part with sun loungers, parasols, restaurants and bars, and the southern wild section that gradually gives way to large boulders and cliffs ideal for snorkelling over deep underwater reefs. Thanks to its exceptional length, the bay remains spacious even in peak season — a rare quality on the Montenegrin coast.

Gradište Monastery — 12th century

Just behind Buljarica lies Gradište Monastery, a historic monastic complex dating back to the 12th century, making it one of the oldest sacred sites on this part of the Montenegrin coast. The site of Kufin, with Bošković's Tower and the Church of Saint Petka, served as the historic boundary between Europe and the Ottoman Empire from 1571 to 1878. At Presjeka there is also a commemorative plaque to Emperor Franz Joseph II from 1875. This entire area bears witness to the complex historical role of this region at the crossroads of cultures and civilisations.

Lučice Beach — sandy cove

Just 500 metres north of Buljarica, nestled in a cove between two headlands and surrounded by dense forests of cypress and pine, lies Lučice beach — one of the most beloved in the area around Petrovac. Fine golden-yellow sand and a shallow seabed make it particularly suitable for families with young children. From the beach you can see two small islands — Katič and Sveta nedjelja. Lučice can be reached by a walking trail from Buljarica in about 30 minutes or by water taxi during the season.

Drobni pijesak — hidden by a trail

Drobni pijesak beach is situated between Budva and Petrovac and is accessible exclusively via a walking trail that offers panoramic views of the coast. Although the name suggests fine sand, the beach is actually made up of rounded pebbles and stones, and small natural pools form in the shallows that are particularly interesting for children. The trail is short but requires some fitness, and the experience is all the more special because the beach — due to its limited accessibility — is never overcrowded. Morning or just before sunset is the ideal time to visit.
