Highlights

Institut Igalo is one of the most renowned balneological institutions on the Adriatic, situated immediately beside the beach on the seafront. It uses radioactive mud and seawater for therapeutic purposes, attracting guests from across the region. Alongside classic wellness treatments, the institute also offers rehabilitation programmes. The building sits right on the shore of the Adriatic Sea with views of the island of Mamula, making a stay here particularly enjoyable.

The island of Mamula is situated at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor and is directly visible from Igalo Beach. It is home to a 19th-century fortress, which is one of the recognisable symbols of this stretch of the Montenegrin coast. Boat excursions to the island are organised, and during the crossing, spectacular views of the bay and the surrounding mountains unfold. The fortress has been restored in recent years and adapted for tourist visits.

The Pet Danica promenade is a 6 km long coastal walking path that connects smaller settlements from Meljine to Igalo, passing through the centre of Herceg Novi. The promenade follows the shoreline and offers uninterrupted views of the Bay of Kotor and the mountain slopes in the background. Cafés, restaurants, and beach bars line the route. It is ideal for morning walks, cycling, or a leisurely ride by the sea, and is especially attractive in the late afternoon as the sun sets.

Igalo Beach is characterised by fine sand and distinctive radioactive mud that occurs naturally along the shore — it is precisely because of this mud that Igalo became a well-known health destination. The sea is calm and shallow near the shore, making it suitable for swimmers of all ages. From the beach there are unobstructed views of the island of Mamula and the bay entrance, where cruise ships, yachts, and fishing boats pass daily. Restaurants with live music and a seaside atmosphere are available right by the beach.
