Highlights

Right next to Mirište lies Žanjice beach, one of the most popular beaches in Montenegro, known for its crystal-clear sea and natural white pebbly surface. The beach is also notable for a fascinating historical detail — it was once the private beach of Josip Broz Tito, president of the former Yugoslavia. Hidden among the olive groves above the beach, just a few steps from the shore, is the Church of St. John, built in 1881, with an intriguing story behind the origins of this idyllic place. A short forest trail from Mirište leads to Žanjice in about 15 minutes on foot.

One of the most spectacular natural attractions in this part of the Adriatic, the Blue Cave is located on the Luštica Peninsula, halfway between Luštica Bay and Žanjice beach. The cave takes its name from the unique way light reflects off the sandy floor, illuminating the entire space in an intense shade of blue. The effect is particularly mesmerising when the sun shines directly into the cave entrance around midday. Swimming inside the cave is considered a special experience that draws visitors from across Europe. The cave is accessible exclusively by boat or dinghy, with departures organised from Mirište and Žanjice beaches.

On the island of Mamula, visible from Arza beach near Mirište, stands an Austro-Hungarian fortress dating from the period of Austrian rule over this part of the Adriatic. From Arza beach there is a direct view of Mamula island, Žanjic island, and the ancient fortification, making this spot exceptionally attractive for history enthusiasts and photographers alike. The fortress is accessible by boat from Mirište and surrounding beaches, and the Sun Deck terrace of the restaurant on Mamula Island offers a unique open-air dining experience overlooking the Adriatic, with a menu inspired by Mediterranean flavours.

Mirište Beach is described as a beach surrounded by forest in harmony with the sea — Mediterranean vegetation descends almost to the pebbly shoreline, creating natural shade that is especially welcome during the hot summer days. The sheltered cove ensures calm waters suitable for swimming and snorkelling, while the crystal clarity of the sea also attracts diving enthusiasts. The surrounding nature also offers the possibility of short hiking trails to neighbouring beaches, of which Žanjice beach is the most accessible — just a quarter of an hour's walk along a forest path.
