Pecka Beach

A wild cove on the Luštica Peninsula with crystal-clear open sea water

Season: June — September
Overview

Pecka Beach, also known as Velja Spila, is nestled on the Tivat side of the Luštica Peninsula, in the Trašte cove, just 300 metres from Almara Beach Club. Stretching approximately 100 metres and covering 1,420 m², it was once entirely wild and accessible only by boat — today it has a paved access road, parking, and the 21 Beach Club beach bar. The remarkable vertical stone backdrop alongside the quarry gives Pecka a distinctive industrial contrast that dissolves the moment you step onto the shore itself. The water is crystal-clear, yet always a few degrees cooler than in the Bay of Kotor — a genuinely refreshing advantage during the summer heat. Half of the beach holds the status of a public beach with no beach furniture.

The vertical stone backdrop of Velja Špilja

The most recognisable visual feature of Pecka Beach is the vertical stone cliff that rises directly from the sea and forms the backdrop of the entire cove. This formation, part of the Velja Špilja massif, mesmerises with its scale — the sharp stone texture contrasts with the turquoise colour of the open Adriatic in front. It is precisely this frame — the cliff, the sea, and the small cove — that was filmed in the music video by Who See and drew attention to what was until then an unknown beach. No other beach on the Luštica Peninsula has such a dramatic stone frame.

21 Beach Club and the beach bar

The private section of Pecka Beach managed by 21 Beach Club has transformed the once wild cove into a well-equipped beach with sun loungers, parasols, showers, and a lifeguard service. The bar is open daily from 09:00 to 20:00 during the summer season. Particularly eye-catching are the swings positioned directly above the sea — the beach's main photographic attraction that has flooded social media. Every afternoon between 4 PM and 7 PM, live band and DJ sets are organised, drawing a young crowd from across the peninsula.

Blue Cave — by water taxi from the cove

From Pecka or the nearby Luštica Bay Marina, a short boat trip to the Blue Cave is easily arranged — a spectacular aquamarine cave located halfway between Luštica Bay and Žanjice beach. The cave is known for the intense blue colour of the water inside, created by sunlight passing through an underwater opening. The best time to visit is between 9 AM and 12 PM, when the sun enters at the optimal angle and the water shines with the most intense hues. Water taxis travel to the cave daily throughout the summer season.

Žanjice Beach — once Tito's private beach

Žanjice Beach, a short boat ride from Pecka, was once the private beach of Josip Broz Tito, president of former Yugoslavia, and is today a favourite destination among the local population. Located on the south-western tip of the Luštica Peninsula, Žanjice offers views of the open Adriatic and a water taxi pier towards the Blue Cave. From Žanjice, you can hike to Arza beach, where the remains of an Austro-Hungarian fortress and a view of Mamula island are visible. The combination of historical context and unspoilt nature makes this area a distinctive destination within a day trip itinerary.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The beach is officially called Velja Spila, after the cave of the same name nearby, but the local name Pecka has become far more widely known. The name Pecka comes from bees (pčele) that used to sting the rare visitors — today there are no more bees, but the nickname has stuck and become firmly established thanks to the popular music video by the group Who See.
The beach has both a public and a private section. Half of the area (approximately 710 m²) is a public beach with no beach furniture and is free to use. The other section, managed by the 21 Beach Club beach bar, offers sun loungers, parasols, and showers for a fee, and music programmes are organised in the afternoons.
The beach is reached from the direction of Tivat towards Radoviće, then along the road leading to the beaches of Plavi Horizonti and Oblatno. Pecka is 300 metres from Almara Beach Club. The road follows the route alongside the quarry and ends at a designated parking area (around €4), while free parking is possible along the road before the barrier.
The water at Pecka is always a few degrees cooler than in the Bay of Kotor because the beach faces the open Adriatic. This is a particularly pleasant characteristic in July and August when air temperatures are at their highest.
Almara Beach Club in the Oblatno cove is in the immediate vicinity (300 m). By water taxi from Luštica Bay Marina you can visit the Blue Cave, Žanjice beach, and Arza beach with views of Mamula fortress. All of these destinations are accessible in less than an hour by boat.
The largest crowds are in July and August, especially at weekends. For a quieter experience, set off early in the morning or visit the beach in June and September. The parking area fills up quickly — leave your car along the road before the barrier if the car park is full, which is free of charge.
