Highlights

The Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary is one of the most significant Baroque sacred buildings on the shores of the Bay of Kotor. Its construction began in the 18th century and it represents a supreme example of the architectural ambition of Boka seafarers who financed its building from the proceeds of navigation. The interior is adorned with rich decoration and votive objects brought back by captains from their voyages. The church dominates the silhouette of Prčanj and is visible from the sea from a great distance.

Along the shore of Prčanj stretches a promenade lined with old stone captains' palaces from the 18th and 19th centuries. Prčanj was once one of the most important maritime towns in Boka — from here, captains set sail under the flags of various powers. Their palaces, built in Baroque and Classicist styles, still stand as witnesses to that era. A walk along this stretch offers insight into the former living standards and architectural culture of Boka's seafaring tradition.

The beach in Prčanj is a pebbly-sandy shore with a direct view of the Bay of Kotor. The sea is clean and calm thanks to the sheltered nature of the bay, and the beach is considerably quieter than those on the Budva Riviera. It is ideal for swimming in May, June, September and October when the crowds are minimal. The beach surroundings offer pleasant tree shade and rocky coves for those seeking a little privacy.

From the shore of Prčanj, one of the most beautiful views of the Bay of Kotor unfolds — a bay often described as the southernmost fjord in Europe. To the west, Tivat and the Luštica peninsula are visible, while to the east, Kotor nestled at the foot of Lovćen mountain can be seen. Sunsets over Boka from this location are particularly striking, as the horizon is open and the reflection on the still waters of the bay makes the scene visually compelling. This is one of the favourite spots for photographers visiting this part of Montenegro.
