Two international airports 80 km apart — one by the capital, one on the Bay of Kotor.
Montenegro has two gateways: Podgorica (TGD) is the main year-round hub, while Tivat (TIV) is famed for one of Europe's most spectacular landings — the runway begins practically on the shore of the Bay of Kotor.
TGD
Podgorica Airport
The country's main airport, 11 km south of the centre. Year-round routes by national carrier Air Montenegro and European airlines; the best pick for the north, the capital and the southern coast.
Distances
TIV
Tivat Airport
Right on the bay shore, 4 km from Tivat town. The approach between the mountains ranks among the continent's most beautiful; summers bring dense charter traffic from across Europe.
Distances
TIV
Tivat is unbeatable: 8 km to Kotor, 20 to Budva. In summer book your transfer a day or two ahead — the queues are real.
TGD
Podgorica has more routes and steadier fares, and it branches easily towards Kolašin, Žabljak and Lake Skadar.
DBV · TIA
Dubrovnik (DBV) sits ~20 km from the border at Herceg Novi — handy for the western bay. Tirana (TIA) can work for Ulcinj and the south.
Taxi ranks operate at both airports; for summer arrivals book a private transfer a day or two ahead.
All the major brands have desks at both airports. Heading north in winter, ask for winter equipment — mandatory from 15 November.
Direct buses from the airports are scarce — count on a taxi to the town bus station.
The currency is the euro, and both airports are compact — outside peak times 30–40 minutes before a European departure is usually plenty.
Plan the route from the runway to a beach or a mountain — every destination is on one map.
