Citizens of the European Union, the United States and Canada can stay in Montenegro for up to 90 days without a visa, which significantly simplifies trip planning and reduces administrative costs.

Booking accommodation 2–3 months in advance, especially for July and August, can save up to 40% on costs. Early bookers often receive additional perks such as free breakfast or parking.

A rent-a-car at €25–40 per day provides complete flexibility for exploring from coastal towns to mountain peaks — something public transport cannot fully offer.

Did You Know?
Montenegro is the only country in Europe where you can ski on Durmitor in the morning (if there's snow) and swim in the Adriatic Sea in the afternoon — the distance is just 100 kilometres and a 2-hour drive! ski on Durmitor in the morning and swim in the Adriatic Sea in the afternoon
Practical Tips
Bring enough euros in cash, as many places — especially in smaller towns and villages — do not accept cards. ATMs are available in all major locations.
Pack clothing for different climate conditions — summer wear for the beach and warm layers for the mountains. The temperature difference between the coast and Durmitor can be as much as 20°C.
EU roaming applies, but check coverage in mountain areas. Buying a local SIM card may be more economical for longer stays.
Mountain roads can be narrow and winding. Drive carefully, especially towards Durmitor. Fuel is more expensive than in the EU — budget around €1.30–1.50 per litre.
Respect local customs — topless sunbathing is not common. Private beaches charge €5–15 for a sun lounger; public beaches are free.
Try traditional dishes in a konoba rather than tourist restaurants. Prices are lower and quality is often better. Book a table for dinner during the season.
