LiTeritorija

LitteRitorija is Podgorica's regional literary festival, organised by the KIC Budo Tomović cultural centre. Its 10th edition was held from 3 to 5 June 2026 under the motto "Beyond Borders" — a title that captures its mission of connecting the literatures of the region across national lines.

The timing is part of the pleasure. Early June in Podgorica, Montenegro's capital on the plain where rivers meet, brings long warm evenings before the full weight of summer heat settles in — exactly the weather for sitting outdoors with a book, a drink and a conversation. The city's easy cafe culture blends naturally into the festival's open-air programme, and the literary evenings feel like an extension of the way the capital already spends its June nights.

The festival brings together authors from five countries for three days of readings, conversations and panel discussions. The 2026 guest list featured some of the region's most distinctive voices: Zvonko Karanović, Damir Karakaš, Stefan Bošković, Šejla Šehabović and Damir Šodan, among others.

Events take place at KIC and on the plateau in front of the Gimnazija, moving literature out into the open June evenings. The atmosphere is conversational rather than ceremonial — writers and readers share the same space, and discussions spill over after the official programme ends. For visitors it is a rare chance to hear contemporary Balkan writing read and debated by its own authors, and no special preparation is needed: the open setting means you can drift in, stay for a reading and follow your curiosity from there.

All events are free of charge, making LitteRitorija one of the most accessible ways to encounter contemporary Balkan writing first-hand. The festival is annual, held at KIC Budo Tomović and on the Gimnazija plateau in Podgorica, with the next edition running from 2 to 4 June.
