Pljevlja lies in the far north of Montenegro at relatively high altitude, giving it one of the country's most continental climates. Summers are moderate, with July highs around 27°C and cool nights, under long days of over 13 hours of sun. The heat rarely becomes oppressive.

Winters are cold and long, with January highs around 5°C and lows near −4°C, and snow and frost are frequent. Spring is fairly wet, while autumn tends to be the driest, clearest season in the northern hills.
