Ulcinjska noć — Ulcinj Night — is the town's great summer feast: one night in July or August (typically late July, with the exact date announced locally each summer) when the promenade and Mala plaža, Ulcinj's crescent town beach, turn into a single open-air celebration.
Ulcinj in high summer is a town running at full Mediterranean throttle: the crescent of Mala plaža packed by day, the Old Town glowing on its headland above, and the long sands of Velika plaža stretching away to the south. Ulcinjska noć takes all that summer energy and concentrates it onto one waterfront for one night.
Stands line the seafront offering fish, grilled meat and wine, and the crowd eats its way along the promenade between stages. It is the classic Adriatic town-feast formula, given Ulcinj's own flavour — Montenegro's southernmost coastal town, where Mediterranean and Albanian traditions mingle in the food and the music alike.
That mingling is what makes the night distinctive: the grilled fish of the Adriatic beside southern flavours, songs shifting between languages from stage to stage, one crowd moving happily through it all. It is the town's layered identity served as a party.
Concerts carry the night through until dawn, and the party gathers everyone: local families, seasonal workers, and the summer crowds from the town's famous beaches, all funnelled onto one glowing waterfront below the Old Town walls.
Entry is free — you pay only for what you eat and drink. If you are anywhere near Ulcinj in high summer, ask locally for the date; the night is announced each season, typically for late July, and is worth reshuffling plans for. Pace yourself — the music genuinely does run until dawn.
