Auto(r) na korzu

Autor na korzu (Author on the Korzo) is Nikšić's open-air book salon, spread across Trg slobode — the city's main square and traditional korzo, its evening promenade. The 7th edition in 2025 ran a remarkable 18 days, from 24 July to 10 August, making it one of the longest literary events in the country.

Every night brings an author evening under the open sky: readings, conversations and book promotions with writers, while bookstalls line the square through the day. The rhythm is simple and generous — browse the stalls in the daylight, come back after dark for the talk — and the square's café terraces mean nobody has to go far between chapters. Regulars treat it as part of the evening walk; visitors can simply join the flow.

In 2025 the festival embedded an open-air jazz programme (30 July – 4 August), pairing literature with live music at the height of summer. The combination suits the setting: a warm night, a page just bought, live jazz drifting across the square while the promenade moves past the stage.

Organised by the Association of Publishers and Booksellers as the successor of the earlier "Pjesnik na korzu" (Poet on the Korzo), the festival keeps a distinctly Nikšić character: books where people already stroll, on the square, in the warm evening air, with no doors and no dress code.

That character matters. Nikšić is an easygoing beer-and-industry city, and Trg slobode, its broad central square with the plane-tree promenade, is where the town has always taken its evening walk. Setting a book salon on the korzo puts literature directly in the path of everyday life rather than behind a ticket desk, and high summer gives it long, warm evenings to work with.

The festival is held annually in high summer; the coming edition runs from 23 July to 9 August on Trg slobode in Nikšić. Everything is free — browsing, readings and concerts alike.
