Bedem Fest is Nikšić's alternative rock festival, staged inside the walls of the medieval Bedem fortress — the old Onogošt stronghold above the city. The 2026 edition, running from 30 July to 1 August, is the festival's seventeenth, and it remains free of charge, as it has been from the start.
The venue does half the work. Bedem rises above Nikšić with its stone ramparts intact, and few venues in the region can compete with the setting: walls lit up at night, guitars echoing off stone that has stood since the Middle Ages, and the city spread out below the fortress.
The 2026 line-up spans the ex-Yugoslav alternative canon and beyond: Goran Bare i Majke, Eyesburn, Jarboli returning to the stage after ten years, Plejboj, Koi Koi and Vizelj, joined from Italy by blues band Morblus and Milan's Gianluca De Palo. The concerts are accompanied by exhibitions, and a World Music Day event serves as the festival's warm-up.
A Bedem Fest evening builds naturally: the walk up to the fortress as the light fades, the space inside the walls filling, exhibitions to browse between sets, and bands playing into the night across three consecutive evenings. The crowd is famously devoted — this is the summer fixture of Montenegro's rock scene, and it feels like it.
Seventeen editions in, the festival has kept its founding promise: entry has been free of charge from the start, which makes it one of the most accessible major music events in the country. It is featured on Montenegro's national tourism portal, montenegro.travel — recognition that the fortress nights have outgrown their local origins.
Bedem Fest takes place 30 July – 1 August 2026 at the Bedem fortress in Nikšić — three concert nights, free, with no tickets required.
