Green Montenegro International Film Fest
Environmental films screened under the stars at Durmitor's Black Lake each August.
This event has ended
It returns every year — dates for the next edition haven't been announced yet.
Black Lake itself is the emblem of Durmitor National Park: a glacial lake ringed by dense pine forest beneath the bulk of the massif, a short walk above Žabljak. By day it is the park's busiest beauty spot; after dark, when the day visitors have gone, the festival has the shore almost to itself — an auditorium of forest, water and stars.

Films compete across four categories — Ecology, Ecology of the Soul, Promo-Tourism and Student — on a large LED screen by the lake, watched through wireless headphones so the forest around the audience stays silent. Daytime workshops and masterclasses extend the programme beyond the screenings.
The formula has earned international recognition: the Green Film Network has ranked it among the world's top green film festivals. And the experience itself is the draw — watching environmental cinema under the stars, with the lake and the Durmitor massif in the dark behind the screen, is a genuinely singular way to spend an August evening.

The visitor experience is half cinema, half mountain evening. Audiences make their way out from town as the light fades, collect their headphones and settle in as the screen glows against the darkening forest. Evenings at this altitude are cool even in August, so a warm layer is part of the ritual — and the walk back through the pines completes it.
The festival runs over three days in early August. Entry to all screenings and workshops is free, though the national park's entrance fee applies at Black Lake. Full details at greenmontenegro.me.
