Mojkovačka filmska jesen — Mojkovac Film Autumn — is the oldest manifestation in Mojkovac and one of the oldest film festivals in the region — the 50th jubilee edition was held from 3 to 8 October 2025, and the 51st is expected in October 2026. Each autumn it turns this small town in the Tara valley into an unlikely capital of regional cinema.
Mojkovac itself sits in the valley where the Tara gathers pace toward its great canyon, a modest town ringed by the slopes of Bjelasica and Sinjajevina. In October the valley turns russet and gold, and the festival gives the season a social warmth that matches the colours.
The festival's core is a competition of the best recent feature films from Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. Its defining twist is that the awards honour actors rather than directors: prizes go to the best lead and supporting performances, which has made Mojkovac a festival actors genuinely care about. Sidebar programmes add documentaries and animated films to the screening schedule.
Around the screenings, the festival opens out into a broader autumn cultural week — exhibitions, round tables and literary evenings fill the Culture Center between films, and the compact scale means audiences and filmmakers share the same foyer.
For audiences, the pleasure is proximity: in a venue this size there is no festival hierarchy, and post-screening conversations spill naturally into the foyer and the town's cafés. It is regional cinema experienced the way it was made — close up, without red-carpet distance.
The festival runs over five days in early October at the Mojkovac Culture Center, and most of the programme is free — a rewarding stop for anyone travelling the Tara valley out of season.
