Ocean Lava Montenegro

Ocean Lava Montenegro is a triathlon held in the Bay of Kotor, near Kotor's Old Town. Competitors swim, cycle along the bay and run through Dobrota, on routes that pass through the UNESCO-protected area. The organizer describes the event as an experience that combines sport and nature, at sea, with wind, sun and open sky.

Program

A choice is offered between two distances: half marathon (1.9 km swim, 90 km bike, 21 km run) and Olympic distance (1.5 km swim, 50 km bike, 10 km run). According to the organizer, the program includes an official swim warm-up at the city beach, registration and bike service, a briefing for participants in Montenegrin and English, the start of both races from the city beach, and an awards ceremony at the finish line near the Old Town, open to all visitors without a ticket.

Where it is held and how to get there

The race takes place in the Bay of Kotor, in a quiet part of the bay near the Old Town of Kotor. The swim section starts from the city beach, about 300 m from the Old Town, the bike route follows Kotor–Verige–Kamenari–Orahovac and back, and the run takes place in Dobrota, past remains from the Illyrian and Roman periods and the churches of St. Elijah, St. Matthew and St. Eustace. During the race, the bike route is closed to traffic, and the finish is in front of the Old Town.

The event takes place in the zone of the Bay of Kotor that has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1979, giving the route a special atmosphere for participants and spectators along the course.
