About the event
Lovćen SkyRace is a mountain race in skyrunning format starting and finishing on the Town Wharf in the Old Town of Kotor. The first edition will be held on Saturday, 28 November 2026, with the start at 8 o’clock. The course is 30 km long, with about 2,200 m of positive elevation gain, and leads from sea level to over 1,700 m above sea level on Lovćen, then back to Kotor.

Immediately after the start comes a steep climb to Pestingrad – about 1,000 m of elevation gain over just three kilometres, with an average gradient of about 33%. This section is measured separately, as the Pestingrad Vertical segment, with special awards for the fastest woman and fastest man. According to the race announcement on the Maja.TEAM portal, the route to Pestingrad passes through Vilina vrata, a natural stone arch in the rock. The course then leads over Krstac to the Mausoleum and Žanjev Do, from where runners return to Kotor. The organiser may change the course for safety reasons or due to weather conditions.

Lovćen SkyRace

There are three aid stations on the course – Krstac at 5.5 km, the Mausoleum at 13 km and Žanjev Do at 23 km from the start – with water, drinks, fruit and food. Transport from them to the finish is organised for competitors who withdraw or do not reach the time limit. The limits are: Pestingrad two hours from the start, the Mausoleum five hours, Žanjev Do seven and a half hours, and the maximum time to complete the race is nine hours – the finish closes at 17:00.

Competitors aged 18 to 70 with experience in technically demanding races are eligible to participate; those under 18 submit the consent of both parents. All competitors must be self-sufficient on the course. Mandatory equipment includes trail running shoes, a headlamp with charged batteries, a waterproof jacket with a hood, gloves, a hat or bandana, a thermal blanket, a cup, at least 1.5 l of water, first aid, a whistle and a GPX track of the course. The organiser may activate cold-weather equipment – long tights and a long-sleeved shirt – no later than 24 hours before the race. Running or hiking poles are recommended.

Lovćen SkyRace

Entries are exclusively online, from 20 October to 22 November 2026, and the entry fee is €40. It includes the race number, start package, refreshments at the aid stations and transport from the checkpoints in case of withdrawal. An entry is complete only after payment and cannot be transferred to the next edition. Awards go to the first three places in the men’s and women’s categories. In case of bad weather, the race is moved to Sunday, 29 November 2026; the entry fee is not refunded if a competitor cannot take part due to postponement.

The race is organised by the Sports and Skyrunning Club Lovćen from Kotor, with the support of the Municipality of Kotor and the Kotor Tourism Organisation. The club’s founder Miluša Bošković, according to the Maja.TEAM portal, is one of the pioneers of the trail and skyrunning scene in Montenegro and represented Montenegro at the European skyrunning championships in 2021 in Portugal and in 2023 on Prokletije. The rules, GPX track and entries are available on the official race website ssklovcenkotor.com, and the organiser’s contact is skyrunninglovcen@gmail.com.
