Jazz Bay closes Herceg Novi's summer on a swinging note: two evenings in late August at the Park hall amphitheatre, a festival run by the NGO Jazz Bay and established in 2013.

Late August changes the temper of the coast. The fierce mid-summer heat softens, the evenings turn golden earlier, and Herceg Novi — a town of gardens and stairways above the entrance to the Bay of Kotor — begins to exhale. Jazz suits that mood better than any other music, and the open-air amphitheatre gives it a stage in the green heart of town.

The programme pairs regional and international stars — past editions have brought names such as Zdenka Kovačiček with the GreenHouseBluesBand — playing to audiences who have the luxury of time: no peak-season crush, no rush, just two unhurried evenings of horns and rhythm under the late-summer sky.

True to its community roots, the festival also runs educational workshops, passing jazz culture on to younger players and listeners rather than just presenting concerts. That double mission — stage and school — has kept the festival grounded in the town through more than a decade of editions.

The result is a festival that feels like a neighbourhood gathering with world-class guests: locals greet each other between sets, visitors blend in easily, and the music carries into the warm night air long after the amphitheatre lights come up. Nobody checks a watch; the season has already slowed, and the festival slows with it.
