Plav Run

Plav Run is the annual running event of Plav, staged on courses around Plavsko jezero — the glacial lake that spreads beneath the walls of the Prokletije mountains. The 2026 edition, held on 30 and 31 May, drew more than four hundred runners to the lakeshore.

Plav's lake is the centrepiece of a broad green valley beneath the Prokletije, fed by mountain water and ringed by meadows — a rare stretch of flat ground in a region that otherwise goes straight up. Late May catches it at its freshest, with snow still bright on the peaks above the start line.

The programme spans a half marathon (21.1 km), 10 km and 5 km races plus relays, and a prize fund of 2,600 EUR in 2026 gave the sharp end real stakes — while recreational categories welcome joggers, families and visitors who simply want to run a lap of one of Montenegro's most beautiful lakes with a number on their chest.

Few race venues in the country can match the setting: flat lakeside running with the serrated skyline of the Accursed Mountains rising straight ahead. For spectators, the lakeshore doubles as a natural grandstand, and the town of Plav is a short stroll from the action.

Around the racing, the town leans into its role as host: the lakeshore fills with families, finishers cool their legs at the water's edge, and the cafés along the main street do brisk trade. It is northern Montenegro's friendliest race-day atmosphere in one of its grandest settings.

Plav Run is held annually in late spring, with entry fees applying for competitive participation. It pairs naturally with a stay in the Plav–Gusinje valley, where the lake, the springs and the Prokletije trailheads fill the rest of a long weekend.
