Septembarski dani (September Days) is Nikšić's month-long celebration of its Municipality Day, a tradition stretching back roughly eight decades. Through the whole of September — around 110 programmes in 2025 — Montenegro's second city fills with culture, sport and street life.
The climax comes on 18 September, Municipality Day, with the ceremonial presentation of the Liberation Award and a free concert on Trg slobode — in 2025 headlined by Marina Visković and Har. The broad central square, edged by the city's plane-tree promenade, is made for nights like this, and on Municipality Day the whole town seems to converge on it.
Around that peak unfolds a dense calendar: an autumn book fair, the art colony "Ilija Šobajić" hosted at King Nikola's Palace, sports events, and embedded festivals of their own — the Dani meda honey days and the Čorbijada fish-soup contest. The month rewards wandering: a morning might mean browsing the book fair, an afternoon a sports event or a fair, an evening a concert or an exhibition opening at the palace.
September Days shows Nikšić at its most self-confident: an industrial city with a deep cultural streak, celebrating itself over four full weeks. This is a beer-and-industry town at heart, easygoing and unpretentious, and its September mood matches — festive without fuss, welcoming without ceremony, with the korzo along the plane trees busier than ever.
Visitors can drop in on almost any September date and find something happening on the main square or in the palace. Early autumn light softens the city, café terraces stay busy, and the sheer density of the programme gives even a short stopover a reason to linger an extra evening.
September Days is held annually across the whole of September, at venues throughout Nikšić, from Trg slobode to King Nikola's Palace. The vast majority of events are free of charge, which keeps the celebration what it has always been: a month that belongs to everyone in the city.
