Beransko kulturno ljeto — Berane Cultural Summer — is the umbrella festival that has organized this northeastern town's summers for more than forty-five years. The 2024 edition ran from 1 July to 8 August, filling nearly six weeks with an almost nightly rhythm of events.
The programme spans the whole cultural spectrum: concerts take over the town square, theatre performances and literary evenings fill indoor venues, sports events keep the days active, and a dedicated children's programme makes sure the youngest have their own slice of the summer. Few evenings pass without something happening somewhere in town.
The atmosphere is that of a town living outdoors: on warm evenings the square becomes Berane's shared living room, with locals of all generations drifting between events. For travellers exploring Montenegro's northeast — the Lim valley, Bjelasica and the routes toward Prokletije — the festival is the simplest way to catch the region's social pulse.
Everything is free of charge. The festival runs from the start of July into early August across Berane's square and town venues; whatever evening you arrive, there is a good chance something is on.
