Boka Bay Trail

The Boka Bay Trail (BBT) is a trail-running weekend based in Herceg Novi, with the action starting from the Škver port on the town's waterfront. The 2026 edition was held on 25 and 26 April.

The setting is the race's calling card. Herceg Novi climbs in terraces from the sea toward the mountains behind it, and the trails above town rise quickly into open slopes with the whole Bay of Kotor spread below. Few race venues put runners above such a view within the first kilometres — here the panorama begins almost at the gun.

The event offers multiple distances traced along the slopes above the bay, so runners of different levels can pick their challenge — from those testing themselves on a shorter course to experienced trail racers taking on the longer routes. The field is international, drawing trail runners from beyond Montenegro to race above one of the Adriatic's most striking bays.

For spectators, the weekend costs nothing: the start at Škver puts the atmosphere right in the middle of town, and the courses climb straight from the sea into the hills of the Boka. Race mornings have a festival feel on the waterfront — numbers being pinned on, the town gathering, and the field streaming out along the shore before turning uphill.

For runners, it is a spring fixture in a setting few races can match — sea on one side, mountains on the other, and the bay below for the entire climb. Late April also means cool racing temperatures and a green, flowering coast: the Boka at its freshest.
