About the event

Praznik mimoze — the Mimosa Festival — is Herceg Novi's celebration of the yellow bloom that covers the town every February, and one of the oldest tourism manifestations in Montenegro, held since 1969. The 2026 festival was the 57th, running from 13 to 28 February under the slogan "Dok sve spava, mimoza se budi" — "While everything sleeps, the mimosa awakens".

Herceg Novi is the natural home for such a festival. Draped over the hillside at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor, it is a town of stairways, gardens and famously mild winters — the reason mimosa trees thrive here and cover the slopes in yellow while the rest of Europe is still deep in winter. When the bloom arrives, the town treats it as an event in itself.

The festival's signature scenes repeat year after year: parades with majorettes and the city music marching through town, mimosa bouquets in every hand, and fish-and-wine feasts set up along the coast promenade, where winter visitors eat and drink beside the sea. A visitor's day settles into that rhythm easily — a parade in the afternoon, a plate of fish and a glass of wine on the promenade as the light softens over the bay.

The festival is Herceg Novi's answer to the off-season — two weeks built on flowers, music and food at a time when the rest of the coast is quiet. Few Montenegrin events carry as much local identity, and none announces the coming of spring on the Adriatic quite so loudly.

More than half a century of editions has made the festival part of the town's character rather than just an item on its calendar. The 2026 slogan sums up the mood: the coast's first celebration of the year, held while the summer towns around it are still shuttered.

The Mimosa Festival takes place every February in Herceg Novi; the 2026 edition ran from 13 to 28 February. All parades and promenade festivities are free — come hungry and follow the music.
