Spuško ljeto (Spuž Summer)

Spuško ljeto (Spuž Summer) is the summer-long riverside programme of Spuž in Danilovgrad municipality, centred on the natural beach of the Zeta river below the Spuž bridge. The 2024 season ran from 1 July to 20 August — seven weeks of small-town summer life by the water.

Spuž sits in the green Zeta valley, where the river winds through the plain of Danilovgrad municipality. In the hottest weeks of the year, when the lowlands bake, the Zeta's cool green water is where the whole town naturally gathers — and the beach below the bridge becomes its open-air living room.

The Zeta is the event's main attraction: clean, green river water for natural swimming through the hottest weeks of the year. Around the beach, the programme layers a fish-soup contest, children's animation and concerts, and sports tournaments that draw clubs from around Montenegro to compete through the summer.

The atmosphere is the opposite of the coast's crowded beaches — a local river scene where kids leap from the banks, teams battle on nearby courts, and evenings bring music by the water. For travellers exploring central Montenegro, it is an authentic slice of how the Bjelopavlići valley spends its summer.

There is no schedule to follow and no ticket to buy: visitors simply arrive with a towel, swim, and see what the day's programme brings. Afternoons belong to swimmers and tournaments, evenings to concerts and the fish-soup pots, and the rhythm repeats gently week after week for the length of the season.

Spuško ljeto runs annually through the heart of summer, from 1 July to 20 August, at the Zeta river beach in Spuž. Everything is free, from swimming to the concerts, making it an easy, spontaneous stop on any journey through Danilovgrad municipality and the valley.
