About
We set off from the shore in Virpazar, where you get a kayak, paddle and life jacket, and the guide explains the basics of paddling – no experience needed.
Below the Besac fortress we paddle down the Crmnica river towards the open lake, through channels overgrown with reeds and large fields of water lilies, where herons and cormorants are often seen, and with a bit of luck even pelicans. On the lake we approach the island of Grmožur with the remains of a fortress called the Montenegrin Alcatraz, and in a nearby cove we stop for a swim.
The tour lasts about 3 hours, and at a leisurely pace we paddle 8–9 km. We use stable two-seater kayaks, suitable for beginners and for children aged 6 and over accompanied by adults. Departures are at 9:00 and 16:00, when the sun is milder and the lake is at its most beautiful.
