Raspberry Days (Dani maline)

Growers from across the valley bring their fresh crop into the town centre, setting out crates of just-picked raspberries for tasting and direct sale. Buying fruit hours off the cane, straight from the family that grew it, is the fair's whole point — and the difference from supermarket berries is not subtle.

A cultural programme runs alongside the stalls, giving the fair the feel of a small-town celebration rather than a mere market. Andrijevica itself, set between the Komovi massif and the Lim valley, makes an appealing stop on any route through Montenegro's northeast, and the fair adds a sweet reason to time a visit for late July.

The fair works best taken slowly: taste across several growers — each will insist theirs are the sweetest — watch the cultural programme, and let the town's unhurried rhythm set the pace. Andrijevica rarely features on itineraries, which is precisely its charm — a working mountain town going about a very sweet piece of seasonal business, happy to share it with anyone who stops.

The fair takes place in Andrijevica's town centre during the July harvest, and entry is free. Come hungry, and bring a container — visitors rarely leave with less than a kilo.
