About the event
Durmitor Ring Marathon is a road cycling race on a circular route around the Durmitor massif, with start and finish in Žabljak. The first edition takes place on Saturday, 26 June 2027, with an official start at 9 a.m. in the centre of Žabljak. The race is run on roads closed to traffic.

The route is about 80 km long, with 2,103 m of total climbing; the highest point is at 1,946 m, and the lowest, in the Sušica Canyon, at 1,177 m above sea level. It is ridden in one direction, entirely on asphalt, along the road around Durmitor known as the Durmitor Ring panoramic road. Checkpoints are Žabljak, Štuoc, Sušica Canyon, Nedajno (feed station), Trsa and Sedlo, with the finish again in Žabljak. All checkpoints are mandatory.

Durmitor Ring Marathon

The start is organised in starting boxes, and the time limit is five hours – the finish closes at 2 p.m. A properly fastened helmet and a waterproof long-sleeved jacket, which the rider must carry throughout the race, are mandatory. Electric bicycles are not allowed, except in a specially announced non-competitive category. Insurance is mandatory and is provided by the organiser upon registration.

The entry fee depends on the order of confirmed and paid registrations: €79 for the first 100 riders, then €89, €99, €109, €119 and €125, up to €129 from the 351st registration. The basic package includes participation, timekeeping, closed roads and a 30% discount on the entry fee for the 2028 edition during pre-registration. The Gold package (+€79) adds an official cycling jersey, Platinum (+€129) also includes a start from the VIP corridor, and the Diamond package (€750) includes a rental car from the airport in Podgorica or Tivat, two nights at Hotel Aleksandar Conference & Spa with half board for one person, and priority check-in. Registrations close on 6 June 2027. For cancellations up to 26 May 2027, 80% of the entry fee is refunded; from 27 May to 12 June the entry fee is transferred to the next edition, and after that it is neither refunded nor transferred.

Durmitor Ring Marathon

The first 100 riders with a confirmed and paid registration, regardless of package, are guaranteed a start from the first starting corridor, a personalised start number in a special colour and a place on the “Durmitor Ring Wall of Fame – Marathon Founder Riders” wall. Those who finish the marathon also receive a glass plaque of the first edition, numbered from 001 to 100.

The same route can also be ridden independently, as the Durmitor Ring Experience: without a joint start and organiser support, on roads open to traffic, in the season from April to October, depending on weather and road conditions – except on marathon day. Registration is free and opens on 10 October 2026; riders receive the official GPX and instructions for checkpoints, and after a verified ride a certificate and their name on the wall of fame in the Žabljak Tourist Organisation. In this variant, all types of bicycles are allowed, including electric ones.

Durmitor Ring Marathon

The organiser of the race is, according to the official rules, Abacus from Oriovac, and the event is under the patronage of the Cycling Federation of Montenegro, with the Žabljak Tourist Organisation as a partner. Start packages are collected in person at the Žabljak Tourist Organisation, with an ID document and registration confirmation.
