Best Time to Visit

Warm sea, quiet trails, golden autumns or snow-dusted peaks — pick the Montenegro you want to meet.

There is no wrong month to come — only different Montenegros. The coast, the lakes and the mountains each keep their own calendar; here is how to read it.

When to go
May – June

The sweet spot

The sea begins to warm, the mountains are impossibly green and the coast still belongs to the locals. Long days, soft prices, easy roads.

  • Sea reaches ~22 °C by late June
  • Trails open, crowds still thin
July – August

Peak season

The hottest sea and the busiest coast of the year. Book rooms, tables and boats well ahead — or slip up to the mountains for a cool escape.

  • Sea at its warmest, ~25–26 °C
  • Kotor & Budva at their fullest
September – October

The second sweet spot

The sea holds its summer warmth while the light turns golden. Harvest season fills the markets — and the wine cellars open their doors.

  • Swimming often good into October
  • Harvest & wine season inland
November – April

The quiet months

The coast empties and slows to its own rhythm, while Kolašin and Žabljak turn white. The year's lowest prices — and Montenegro to yourself.

  • Ski season roughly Dec – Mar
  • Lowest prices of the year
