Frequently asked
What travellers ask most
May, June, September and October strike the best balance — warm water, fewer crowds, mild temperatures. July and August are peak coastal summer; January and February open the ski season on Durmitor and Kolašin.
Citizens of the EU, UK, US, Canada, Australia and many other countries can stay up to 90 days visa-free. Check current rules at mip.gov.me before travelling.
Montenegro uses the euro (EUR), though it is not a eurozone member. ATMs are available in all cities and cards are accepted in most restaurants and hotels, especially on the coast.
The official language is Montenegrin. English is widely understood in tourist areas; Russian, Italian and German are also common, especially among hotel staff.
Montenegro is one of the safer countries in the region, with low crime rates against tourists. Use normal care in crowds. Mountain driving on switchback roads requires attention and experience.
Main airports are Podgorica (TGD) and Tivat (TIV). Tivat is closest to the coast and the Bay of Kotor. Bus routes connect Montenegro with Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Albania. A Bar–Bari (Italy) ferry runs during the summer months.
