Did You Know?

In the museum on the island of Our Lady of the Rocks, there is an embroidery signed by Hijacinta Kunić in 1828. Legend says she worked on it for years, waiting for her beloved to return from the sea, and that she used her own hair for the angel's hair.

Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks

Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks

A baroque town on the shore of the Bay of Kotor with a view of two islands with churches, Our Lady of the Rocks and St. George. Right along the waterfront are the palaces of maritime families, and a boat from the waterfront takes about five minutes to Our Lady of the Rocks. The island was built by people: according to legend, sailors sank stones and old ships around the reef where an icon of the Mother of God was found in 1452. Every 22 July at dusk, the Fasinada, a convoy of linked boats that throw stones around the island, sets off from Perast.

When: in the evening, when day-trippers leave, the town is almost silent.
