Sandy island at the mouth of the Bojana — nudism, surfing and fish restaurants
Ada Bojana is a triangular sandy island formed by sediment deposits at the mouth of the Bojana river where it meets the Adriatic Sea, just a few kilometres south of Ulcinj. The island is surrounded by the river on two sides, while the third side opens directly onto the sea, allowing visitors to swim in both fresh and salt water within a ten-minute walk. It is renowned for its nudist resort dating back to 1973 — the only one of its kind in the Balkans — as well as excellent conditions for kitesurfing and windsurfing, which experts compare to the Canary Islands and Portugal. Along the riverbanks, wooden raft restaurants serve fish grilled on a gradele, freshly pulled from the river.

Highlights

The beach at Ada Bojana stretches 3 km along the Adriatic side of the island and is one of the few true sandy beaches on the Montenegrin coast. Fine sand and ample space for every visitor to find their own oasis set it apart from the typical pebbly Montenegrin beaches. The nudist section of the beach — the only such complex in the Balkans — has existed since 1973 and attracts visitors from across Europe seeking privacy and a more liberated atmosphere. The hotel beach area offers facilities for an active day: beach volleyball, five-a-side football, water sports and a beach bar.

Ada Bojana was formed at the point where the Bojana river splits into two branches and flows into the Adriatic Sea, creating a triangular island with a rich riverine ecosystem. At this spot, a visitor can move in just 10 minutes from swimming in the fresh river water to the Adriatic Sea — an experience unmatched anywhere else on the Montenegrin coast. The delta is home to over 240 species of birds and is an ecologically unique area. The sight of fresh and salt water merging, especially in the early morning or at sunset, is one of the most visually striking spots in the entire south of Montenegro.

Along the riverbank of the Bojana, a series of wooden raft restaurants have become the signature trademark of Ada Bojana. Fish is grilled on a gradele and served fresh, just pulled from the river, making them a more authentic culinary experience than most restaurants on the Montenegrin coast can offer. The tradition of fishing and preparing fish in the traditional manner has been upheld here for decades and is inseparable from the identity of the island. Spending the early evening on the rafts with views across the river to the Albanian shore on the other side is considered one of the most photogenic experiences Montenegro has to offer visitors.

Kamp Ada is located directly next to the nudist resort and is the only nudist camping site in Montenegro. The campsite covers 54,000 m² with a capacity of 220 people, and infrastructure includes 56 electrical hook-ups, 4 bathrooms and 16 toilets. Visitors choose between tent pitches, comfortable bungalows and campervan spots, each offering direct access to the beach, bar and restaurant. Surrounded by lush vegetation and nestled between the river and sea shores, the campsite provides an atmosphere that combines the comfort of camping with unspoiled Mediterranean nature.
