A healing sulphurous beach exclusively for women, nestled in a pine forest
Ženska Plaža is located in a cove between the Hotel Albatros and the former Hotel Galeb, surrounded by a pine forest just two kilometres from the centre of Ulcinj. Sulphurous-mineral water rich in minerals springs up in the shallow sea, and its therapeutic effects have been studied for more than eight decades. The thermal water, combined with clean seawater, creates a natural aerosol therapy, and doctors recommend it especially to women experiencing fertility problems. From May to October, access to the beach is exclusively for women — a long-standing tradition and a defining part of this place's unique identity. During the golden age of Montenegrin tourism, Ženska Plaža was featured in all tourist brochures as one of the key attractions of the region.

Highlights

Sulphurous-mineral water, whose chemical composition was officially studied more than 80 years ago, springs up in the shallow waters of Ženska Plaža. When ocean waves wash over the sulphurous-mineral water, micro and macro molecules are created that enable natural aerosol therapy. The density of the mineral water is perceptible from the very first entry, and gynaecologists recommend it especially as a natural therapy for infertility. During the era of Yugoslav tourism up to the 1990s, the beach was featured in all regional tourist brochures.

Ženska Plaža is set at the heart of a pine forest that stretches two kilometres eastward from Mala Plaža. The forest has an outstanding health and recreational function — doctors recommended it to children with asthma for morning walks and gargling with seawater. The scent of century-old pines combined with the mineral sea creates an atmosphere that is hard to find anywhere else on the Adriatic coast. Squirrels playing in the pine trees are a common sight during the morning hours.

The cave within Ženska Plaža lends the entire space a distinctive, mysterious character that sets visitors apart from the typical beach atmosphere. The rocks are covered in shellfish, and the water in the shallows takes on a dark green hue due to the density of its mineral composition. The rocky sections from which sulphurous and mineral matter spring forth are key to the beach's therapeutic effects. This natural setting in a wind-sheltered cove makes the beach an ideal spot for an extended stay and therapeutic treatments.
