Overview

Montenegro in November 2026: weather and sea, what's open and what's closed, what to do and all the events of the month, from the Actors' Festival in Nikšić to Njegoš Day and the Olive Festival in Bar.

Key highlights

  • Actors' Festival in Nikšić
  • Njegoš Day in Cetinje
  • Olive harvest around Bar
  • Birds on Lake Skadar

November is the month when the coast returns to the locals. Seasonal hotels and beach bars are closed, rain is frequent, and the towns are as quiet as they rarely are at any other time of year. Still, November 2026 has many reasons to travel: the olive harvest around Bar, the Actors' Festival in Nikšić, Njegoš Day in Cetinje, theatre, concerts and exhibitions in Podgorica, birds on Lake Skadar and old towns without crowds.

Below you can find the weather and sea, what's open and what's closed, what to do and all the events from our calendar, week by week. For the whole autumn, also see the Autumn in Montenegro guide.

Can you swim in the sea

Only for the hardy. The sea is around 18 °C in November. The swimming season is over, sunbeds and beach bars are closed, and there are no lifeguards. The beaches are still lovely for a walk, especially on a sunny day after the rain.

What's open and what's closed

  • Kotor–Lovćen cable car: from 1 October, off-season prices apply (return ticket €20, one way €12). In November it operates only if weather conditions allow the season to be extended, so check the operator's website before setting off.
  • Njegoš Mausoleum on Lovćen is open until 15 November, every day from 9 am to 6 pm (ticket €8), and from 16 November to 14 April it is closed to visitors.
  • Lipa Cave near Cetinje operates from April to the end of November.
  • Skadar Lake National Park: the daily ticket is €5 per person. Arrange boat trips out of season in advance in Virpazar.
  • On the coast, city hotels, cafés and restaurants in the old towns are open, but seasonal hotels and beach bars have been closed since mid-October, and in the south of the coast the choice is smallest.
  • Mountains: rafting and mountain huts have finished their season, and ski resorts are not yet open. For winter 2026/27, no ski resort has announced its opening date yet; the season usually starts in December, depending on snow.
  • Roads: from 15 November to 1 April, winter equipment is mandatory when winter conditions are present on the road, with at least 4 mm of tyre tread. The road over Sedlo on Durmitor may close with the first heavy snow.
  • Flights: the winter flight schedule applies from 25 October 2026 and has fewer direct routes than in summer, so check flights in good time.

What to do in November

Olive harvest and the Old Olive Tree in Bar

Around Bar, the olive harvest lasts from October to December, and the Bar area has more than 100,000 olive trees. In Mirovica grows the Old Olive Tree, more than 2,000 years old and one of the oldest olive trees in Europe. It is open all year from 8 am to 6 pm, and the ticket is €1 for adults and €0.50 for children. At the end of November, the Olive Festival, a fair of olives and olive oil, is traditionally held in Stari Bar.

Lake Skadar, Virpazar and Crmnica wine

Lake Skadar is on the Ramsar list of wetlands of international importance, also important as a wintering site for waterbirds, so autumn and winter are a good time for birdwatching. The starting point is Virpazar, a small place in the heart of Crmnica. Take cash there, as the village has one ATM and many boatmen and taverns do not accept cards.

Crmnica is the region of Crmnica Vranac. The harvest ended in October, and November is good for quiet tastings in family wineries, which should be announced a day in advance. Along with the wine, bleak and smoked carp, fish of Lake Skadar, are served here.

Old towns without crowds

In November 2025, Kotor had 89% fewer hotel guests than in August. The ramparts, churches and squares of the Old Town are then completely quiet, while Budva, Kotor and Podgorica still have lively city life. A rainy day is good for museums: in Cetinje there are the National Museum, the Njegoš Museum Biljarda and the Palace of King Nikola. Ostrog Monastery welcomes pilgrims throughout the year.

Theatre, concerts and exhibitions in Podgorica

November is one of the richest months for culture in the capital. At the KIC "Budo Tomović" there are MAKADO and concerts, the Music Centre of Montenegro has concerts on the Main Stage, and the Montenegrin National Theatre has started its 73rd season with the play "Crnojevići". The MSUCG Gallery is showing the exhibition "The State as a School" until 20 November, and the Modern Gallery an exhibition dedicated to 20th-century modernism.

Walks and hiking in mild weather

On the coast, November, between rainy days, is pleasant for walks and lower trails, with 16–17 °C by day. Visit the mountains with caution, as snow is already falling on the peaks and days are short. Plan hiking tours so that you return before dark, around 4 pm.

Good to know

The first half of November is better for Lovćen and Cetinje: the mausoleum is open until 15 November, and Njegoš Day is on 13 and 14 November. The second half of the month is quieter, with concerts in Podgorica and the Olive Festival in Bar once it is confirmed.

Heads-up

From 15 November, winter equipment is mandatory in winter conditions. If you rent a car, check whether it has winter tyres, and check the condition of mountain roads before setting off, for example through AMSCG on 19807.

Money saver

Out of season, accommodation is usually cheaper and easy to find in cities, but in the south of the coast and in the mountains many facilities do not operate. Before booking, check whether the property operates in November.
