A pebble cove near Utjeha on the Bar Riviera
Paljuškovo is a smaller, lesser-known pebble cove located near Utjeha, at the far end of the Bar Riviera heading towards Ulcinj. The beach is framed by a rocky shoreline and green vegetation, giving it a natural, semi-enclosed character. The water is exceptionally clear — thanks to the unique composition of the seabed, underwater visibility reaches over 50 metres. The beach is listed among the family bathing spots in the Bar municipality and offers sunbed and umbrella rentals, as well as concrete diving platforms. Even at the height of the summer season, crowds here remain significantly smaller than at the more popular beaches around Bar.

Highlights

Paljuškovo Beach stretches approximately 100 metres within the cove of the same name, framed by the rocky headlands of Adamovac and Karastanov. The pebbles are coarser and the shoreline steep, so water shoes are recommended. Half of the beach is free, while the other half is equipped with rental sunbeds and umbrellas in the natural shade of the trees. Concrete diving platforms attract younger visitors, while the calm and clear cove suits those seeking a swim without the crowds.

One of the defining features of Paljuškovo Beach is the exceptional clarity of the sea — thanks to the unique composition of the seabed, underwater visibility reaches up to 50 metres, which is above average even for the Montenegrin coast. Sea temperatures in summer reach 27°C, which, combined with the clarity, makes this cove particularly well suited for snorkelling and diving. The rocky underwater shoreline shelters diverse marine life accessible even without specialist diving equipment.

Just two kilometres south of Paljuškovo lies Hladna Uvala, one of the most prized hidden beaches on Montenegro's southern coast. Described as a small cove surrounded by olive groves, a rocky shoreline, and dense vegetation, Hladna Uvala offers kayak rentals — making it a starting point for exploring this stretch of coast by sea, including a return to Paljuškovo by water. It is also the nearest point for hiring watercraft near Paljuškovo Beach.

About 20 minutes' drive from Paljuškovo Beach lies Stari Bar, one of the most significant historical sites on the Montenegrin coast. The fortified city is set at 170 metres above sea level, preserving the ruins of churches, mosques, palaces, and cisterns from the Byzantine, Venetian, and Ottoman periods. Access is on foot, and within the walls stand the remains of the Church of St. Nicholas and an ancient aqueduct. Stari Bar is protected by Montenegro's Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments.
