Reževići Monastery

Reževići Monastery

Orthodox monastery from the 13th century along the Adriatic Highway

First mention: 13th century

Overview

The Reževići Monastery is located on a small plateau above the sea, right next to the Adriatic Highway between Sveti Stefan and Petrovac, in the village of Katun Reževići.

It is counted among the old monasteries of the “Paštrovska Sveta Gora”, and it was named after the Paštrović brotherhood of Reževići and the small Reževići River. The complex today consists of three churches, a konak and service buildings, enclosed by a wall and surrounded by olive groves and pine forest. According to tradition, the small Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God was built in the 13th century by Stefan Prvovjenčani, and the second church, dedicated to St. Stephen, by Emperor Dušan in the mid-14th century. The monastery has been destroyed and rebuilt several times, and today it is an active male monastery of the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral.
